What this QBO converter creates
This page reads transaction rows from a bank statement PDF and creates a QBO/OFX file. QBO files are used in QuickBooks Web Connect workflows, but the import options available to you depend on your QuickBooks edition and account. Check your current import screen before converting a large batch.
The file contains transaction data detected from the statement. It is not a live bank connection, does not authorize access to your account, and does not include the original PDF pages or attachments. A successful download also does not guarantee that a particular QuickBooks product will accept every statement layout.
Convert a bank statement PDF to QBO in four steps
1. Choose the statement PDF
Select one or more PDF statements from your device. The converter supports PDF files up to 20 MB. Text-based statements are usually easier to read than image-only scans.
2. Review the local preview
Check the detected transaction dates, descriptions, debits, credits, and balances. If a scanned page is not readable, run local OCR and review the recognized rows again. The preview is for checking; it does not edit the source transactions.
3. Confirm the export details
The free preview covers the first two pages. The current checkout screen shows the price and export limit before payment; the selected batch can include up to 50 pages. Confirm those details before unlocking the full file.
4. Download and verify the QBO file
Download the QBO file, then compare its date range and sample transactions with the original statement. Import a small, reviewed batch first and check for duplicates before adding the transactions to your books.
QBO, CSV, and Excel support different workflows
Choose QBO when your QuickBooks product offers a compatible Web Connect import. Choose CSV when your bookkeeping tool expects mapped columns, or Excel when you need to sort and inspect transactions before importing them another way.
A QBO export transfers detected transaction rows; it does not recreate a bank feed or preserve the statement's page design. If your importer rejects QBO, use the CSV or Excel converter and follow the import options shown in your bookkeeping software.
| Output | Best fit |
|---|---|
| QBO | A reviewed QuickBooks Web Connect import, when your product and account accept QBO files. |
| CSV | A transaction table for spreadsheet review or an importer that accepts mapped CSV columns. |
| Excel / XLSX | Sorting, filtering, reconciliation, and manual review in a workbook. |
Check these fields before importing
PDF layouts vary, and OCR can misread small print or scanned numbers. Compare the preview and downloaded file with the statement before treating the output as bookkeeping data.
- Date range: confirm the first and last transaction dates match the statement period.
- Transaction direction: check that deposits are credits and withdrawals or fees are debits.
- Payee and memo: verify that merchant names and descriptions were not cut off or merged with nearby text.
- Balances: compare several running or ending balances when the statement provides them.
- Currency and account: confirm the detected currency and account details before importing.
The statement is processed in your browser
The PDF is parsed by browser-side code on your device. The statement file and detected transaction rows are not sent to our conversion server.
If you purchase an export, the payment flow handles order and payment metadata. It does not need the contents of your bank statement to complete checkout.
Limits and QuickBooks compatibility
Text-based PDFs generally produce clearer rows. Scanned PDFs can be processed with local OCR, but recognition may still miss symbols, split descriptions, or misread amounts. This converter does not let you edit a detected row before export, so stop and use another workflow if the preview is not accurate.
Import behavior varies by QuickBooks edition, account, and statement data. In the current export logic, an unknown currency falls back to USD and a missing account identifier uses 0000. Check these values in the generated file and in QuickBooks before recording transactions; use CSV or Excel if those defaults do not fit your account.
Who should use this bank statement to QBO tool?
This converter is for people who already have a bank statement PDF and want to review its transaction rows before trying a QBO import. It can help a bookkeeper prepare a small, one-time file without granting a third-party service access to online banking.
It is not a substitute for a supported bank feed, a bank's own export, or bookkeeping review. If you need to edit columns or reconcile uncertain values, use the CSV or Excel output and confirm the final records against the source statement.
Bank statement to QBO converter FAQ
- How do I convert a bank statement PDF to QBO?
- Choose the PDF, inspect the detected transactions in the browser preview, and download the QBO export after confirming the current export details. Compare the result with the statement before importing it.
- What is a QBO file used for?
- A QBO file is a transaction-data file used by some QuickBooks Web Connect import workflows. Available import options vary by QuickBooks product and account, so check the import screen you use.
- Does this connect to my bank or create a live feed?
- No. It creates a downloadable file from the PDF you select. It does not sign in to your bank, authorize a connection, or keep transactions in sync.
- Can I convert a scanned bank statement PDF to QBO?
- You can run local OCR on image-only pages, but recognition is not guaranteed. Review dates, signs, decimal points, and descriptions carefully; do not import rows that do not match the statement.
- Is my bank statement uploaded during conversion?
- No. Parsing and QBO generation happen in your browser. A checkout may send payment and order metadata to the payment flow, but not the PDF or its transaction contents.
- Why might the QBO file show USD or account 0000?
- Those are fallback values in the current exporter when it cannot identify a currency or account number. Check the downloaded file before importing; if the values are wrong for your account, use another output or bookkeeping workflow.
